ABOUT JASON DUGAN
Who I Am
Lauren and I have been married for over 20 years. We are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters, Madison 21 and Skylar 15. Madison is a studying Forensic Anthropology at Eastern New Mexico University, as a youth she spent time as a Law Enforcement Explorer , Venturer and attended two National Jamborees. Skylar is a two sport athlete playing Softball and Volleyball for Mayo High School, as well as a First Class Scout in Troop 82G at Zumbro Lutheran Church.
I have an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies from Kutztown University. During college I was heavily involved in Greek Life and Student Affairs, spending all three years at Kutztown as part of the Housing and Residence Life team. During my time on campus, I decided that I wanted to pursue an advanced degree in Higher Education. I took a position with the Boy Scouts in September of 2000 while I was pursuing my Masters. At the time, working for the Boy Scouts gave me the flexibility to work on my degree.
After three years of working for the Boy Scouts, I decided to change graduate programs. During those three years I had the opportunity to directly impact the lives of young people by helping them participate in once-in-a-lifetime experiences offered by our council camping program. Those interactions made me want to dedicate my life to serving young people through Scouting. It became important to me to find ways to offer youth the same chance I had to learn leadership skills and experience the outdoors. I switched to the Masters program in Nonprofit Management at Eastern University, which I completed in 2005.
My very large extended family is from Philadelphia. My Dad is one of 16 children, and I am one of over 100 grandchildren and great grandchildren in my family. Family is very important to me, and when I am in Philadelphia, my time is spent with my 13 Nieces and Nephews.
I grew up in Philadelphia, raised primarily by my mother. I spent most of my youth as a member of Pack and Troop 312 in the Port Richmond section of the city. I served on the Unami Lodge Executive Committee and had the privilege and honor to serve as the chairman for the 75th Anniversary Lodge Banquet. My Scouting career has allowed me to serve youth and volunteers in multiple communities. I really enjoy working in areas where Scouting is more difficult to deliver. Whether the challenge is socioeconomic, geographical or demographic, I enjoy thinking “outside” the box to solve the issue at hand. Scouting is critical to helping many communities develop character in young people. There are a multitude of youth programs, but Scouting is the one where youth can develop real leadership skills and I am proud to be a part of it.
My family and I are excited about the opportunity the Patriots' Path Council is giving us. Even though we are all committed to Scouting no matter where I am asked to serve. I think my experience working for the Boy Scouts of America in various positions, at multiple phases of council operations, and in an array of communities with vastly different needs make me a good fit for your council. My background allows me to make decisions based on knowledge and experience, from a wide range of perspectives.
